Robert Leslie Shapiro, born on September 2, 1942, is a prominent American attorney and entrepreneur recognized for his significant legal career and philanthropic efforts. He first garnered national attention in 1990 as the defense attorney for Erik Menéndez during a high-profile murder trial. However, Shapiro's most notable achievement came in 1994 when he was a key member of the "Dream Team" that successfully defended O. J. Simpson against murder charges related to the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman.
Transitioning from criminal defense, Shapiro ventured into civil law and entrepreneurship, co-founding several successful companies, including ShoeDazzle, LegalZoom, and RightCounsel.com, where he also made appearances in promotional television ads.
In response to personal tragedy, the untimely death of his son Brent from a drug overdose in 2005, Shapiro established the Brent Shapiro Foundation.
