Ian Thackray embarked on his blacksmithing journey in 2008, dedicating himself to mastering the craft through years of practice. He has developed a specialization in both traditional blacksmithing techniques and contemporary engineering and fabrication. Ian's expertise allows him to provide a diverse range of services, from meticulous restoration and repairs to the creation of innovative architectural designs.
Since launching his own business, Ian has completed remarkable projects at notable locations, including Highgate Cemetery, The Newt in Somerset, Hillsborough Castle, RHS Wisley, and even participated in the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show in 2022.
A passionate advocate for the history of metalwork, Ian has shared his insights on several television programs, such as Channel 4's Great British Dig and Time Crashers. His talents also extend to the film industry, where he appeared as a blacksmith in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals, contributed props for various film and television productions, and provided training for actors in blacksmithing roles.
In recognition of his contributions to the field, Ian has been awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths and serves on the council of the National Heritage Ironworks Group (N.H.I.G.), showcasing his commitment to preserving the art of blacksmithing.
